CLOTHREADY Fade-Out, Garment & Tie Dye Specifications
Introduction
Fade-out washing, garment dyeing, and tie dye are advanced finishing processes designed to create intentional color degradation, vintage effects, and unique, one-of-a-kind looks. These techniques yield garments with special character, softness, and individuality, but also bring natural variability and technical limitations. By proceeding with these processes, the client acknowledges and accepts all outlined standards, tolerances, and responsibilities.
1. Process Characteristics & Limitations
Aged Appearance:
Fade-out washing produces an aged effect by chemically degrading color, most noticeable on the exterior. The inside of the garment remains more saturated, with diminished difference near edges.
Irreproducibility:
Laboratory samples cannot fully replicate production results. Sample swatches and lab dips may show noticeable differences in shade and uniformity compared to bulk production.
Material Dependency:
Final color and evenness depend on multiple factors: dye chemistry, fabric composition and preparation, construction, and process corrosion. Different fabrics or batches will react differently.
Batch Variability:
Each piece is unique. Intra-batch variation in color intensity, tone, and fade is inevitable. Scratches, streaks, or spots may appear randomly—especially on long sleeves and near seams—and are not defects.
Component Responsibility:
All garment elements (main fabric, trims, threads, labels, zippers, tapes, etc.) must be from the same batch and compatible with the chosen process. CLOTHREADY assumes no responsibility for mismatched or incompatible components, nor for any client-supplied fabrics or trims.
2. Best Practices & Approval Workflow
Good Preparation:
All materials must be prepped for optimal dye uptake and dimensional stability. Components must be from the same source/roll and undergo the same preparation (alkaline boil, mercerization, etc.).
Lab Dips & Color Opening:
All lab dips must be carried out on the exact material and preparation intended for bulk. Lab dip codes and seals must accompany production orders.
Shade-Band Requirement:
For each color, fabric, and model (especially printed/embroidered), a sufficient quantity of pre-production samples must be made to simulate production and establish a "Shade-Band" for final approval. Without an approved Shade-Band, all color intensity, tone, or surface variation in bulk production will be considered accepted by the client.
Sample Handling:
Preliminary samples should be performed on all models. Dimensional stability and component compatibility must be tested under production conditions, even if not in final colors.
Prints/Embroidery:
Prints should be avoided before dyeing unless using a proven compatible technique. If used, all panels/components must be pre-shrunk and pre-set under the same conditions to avoid tonal mismatch. CLOTHREADY is not responsible for prints/embroidery fading, soiling, or wear from these processes.
3. Production Considerations
Garment Handling:
Long sleeves should be sewn along seams; ribbons and belts placed in mesh bags (preferably PES); jackets/shirts must be closed; all pockets and flaps closed. Garments are usually dyed inside-out unless otherwise specified.
Metallic Components:
Strongly discouraged. If unavoidable (e.g., zippers), all metal trims must be certified to withstand dyeing/washing, and sliders must be protected.
Dimensional Stability:
Despite pattern adjustments based on pre-testing, up to 5% measurement variation can occur between sample and production. The same fabric in different colors may also shrink differently by up to 5%.
4. Technical Tolerances & Standards
Defect Rate:
Up to 15% of pieces with minor visual or measurement defects is accepted for these processes.
Size Tolerances:
- Shoulder length: ±1.5cm
- Chest width: ±2cm
- Sleeve length: ±2cm
- Body length: ±2cm
- Neck width: ±1.2cm
- Neck depth: ±1.2cm
- Cuffs: ±1.2cm
- Armhole: ±1.5cm
- Ribs/collars: ±0.5cm
For all fade-out/garment dye/tie dye/laundry processes, all above tolerances increase by 50% (e.g., chest width becomes ±3cm).
Color Fastness (Indicative):
- Washing: Grade 3–4 (may drop to 2–3 for dark shades)
- Light: Grade 3–4 (varies by color/fabric; critical shades should be tested by client)
- Rubbing (dry/wet): Grade 3–4
Special dyes may reduce fastness by 1 grade. Light fastness according to dye supplier is 4 but must be independently tested.
Color Difference:
Variations of 5–10% between samples and production are normal due to the nature of garment dyeing.
5. Liability
- CLOTHREADY is not responsible for damage, soiling, or fading of prints, embroidery, or third-party decorations applied before or after our process.
- No responsibility for defects or color issues from client-supplied materials.
- All variations and measurement differences within stated tolerances are not considered defects and are not grounds for claim.
6. Care Instructions
We recommend using care labels that state:
- "Wash at 30°C / 86°F separately, inside out."
- "Do not tumble dry. Line dry inside out and in shade."
- "Avoid prolonged/direct exposure to bright light or sunlight."
By approving the Shade-Band and confirming production, the client accepts all terms and technical tolerances in this document.
